MANILA, Philippines — Senator Alan Peter Cayetano called for the passage of Senate Bill No. 63, or the Anti-Online Gambling Act on Thursday. Cayetano cited reports of some continuing e-sabong operations even after it was banned by government. The senator said that internet gambling can easily attract Filipinos into attempting to win large amounts of money.

“The pull of gambling, especially over the internet, makes it more alluring for our kababayan who cannot help but engage in such activities desperately hoping to immediately win large sums of money,” Cayetano said.

“Online gambling platforms such as e-sabong have demonstrated how it can destroy the moral fiber of our nation,” he added.

Cayetano further added that it was also a “duty” that future generations be protected from the “evils and dangers” of gambling and other vices.

“It is our duty as God-fearing people to raise future generations in a morally upright environment, and to protect them from the evils and dangers that come with gambling, greed, and all the other vices that go along with it,” he said.
