Philippine-American War reenactment to be staged for 125th anniversary

MANILA, Philippines — A history advocacy group will stage on February 4 a reenactment of the events leading to the Philippine-American War in 1899.

Historia Viviente Manila with the Ciriaco Brigade Tiradores Reenactment Group will reenact the events at the corner of Sociego and Silencio streets in Sampaloc, Manila, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the event.

“The reenactment will depict events of the night of February 4 to the morning of February 5, 1899, staged at the site of the historical marker where the first shots were fired,” Historia Viviente Manila said in its post.

A QR code will also be shared for an Augmented Reality view of the location of how it appeared on the night of the confrontation, the group said.

Meanwhile, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines said that it will also conduct a wreath-laying ceremony before the reenactment of the event.

On February 4, 1899, the first shots of the war began when Private William Grayson told an unnamed Filipino soldier to halt, but the soldier did not do so, which led to Grayson shooting at them.
