MANILA, Philippines — Lawmakers reminded Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri on Sunday to honor his supposed commitment to the President to pass a resolution seeking amendments to the Constitution.

They particularly refer to the approval by Senate next month the ‘Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) 6.’

RBH 6 is formally titled, ‘A Resolution of Both Houses of Congress proposing amendments to certain provisions of the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, particularly on Articles Xll, XlV, and XVl.’

House Deputy Speaker and Quezon First District Representative David Suarez hopes the Senate leader will comply with the timeframe.

Suarez said 18 votes from senators are needed to approve the resolution that “would pave the way for amendments to the restrictive economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.”

“We in the House of Representatives believe that SP Zubiri will be true to his word and walk the talk in realizing his commitment to President Marcos to approve RBH No. 6 before the Holy Week break this year by the end of March,” he said.

Likewise, House Majority Leader and Zamboanga city Second District Representative Manuel Jose Dalipe called on Zubiri to adhere to what they call a “self-imposed deadline” for the approval of the resolution.

RBH 6 was authored by the senate president, along with Senators Loren Legarda and Juan Edgardo Angara.

“We hold them to this commitment, which was even reported in the media. The House is waiting for the Senate to approve RBH No. 6 so we can quickly adopt it,” Dalipe added.
