Citing the brain drain in the health care and information technology (IT) sectors, President Marcos has proposed that the government provide more trainings and scholarships for workers in exchange for a few years of service in the country before they leave for jobs abroad.
Marcos stressed the importance of implementing a return-service agreement for workers benefitting from the government鈥檚 training programs in a meeting with the jobs sector group of the Private Sector Advisory Council on Thursday.
On Friday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a statement that Marcos is supporting a proposal to 鈥渃ontinuously train鈥 more workers in the said sectors and 鈥渢hen require them to serve at least two to three years locally鈥 before they look for jobs elsewhere.
The PCO said this push was meant to 鈥渁ddress human capital flight鈥 or brain drain in the health care and IT sectors as more skilled Filipino professionals leave the Philippines to work in other countries.
