DOJ to act on alleged cyanide fishing in WPS
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Justice (DOJ) is determined to take action against by Chinese fishermen in Bajo de Masinloc or Scarborough Shoal in the disputed West Philippine Sea.
“Under the leadership of President Marcos Jr., the Philippines will not tolerate any actions that harm our environment or deprive Filipino people of their right to its use and beauty,” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a statement Wednesday.
Remulla said the DOJ will support agencies gathering pieces of evidence and building a case behind cyanide fishing.
“The impact on these coral reefs is devastating,” said Remulla.
“These ecosystems are vital not only for marine biodiversity but also for the livelihoods of Filipino fisherfolk. We are committed to ensuring proper accountability for such acts,” Remulla said.
