Voters registration applications hit 910,000

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said it has received more than 910,000 applications from aspiring voters since the registration period started on Feb. 12.
Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia said that as of March 4, there were 910,918 applications submitted nationwide, which were processed in Comelec offices, satellite registration centers and “Register Anywhere Program” stations.
The five regions with the most applicants were Calabarzon, with 165,702; Metro Manila, 140,638; Central Luzon, 98,976; Central Visayas, 70,927; and Davao, 55,315.

The poll body targets three million new voters for next year’s midterm elections. Applicants have until Sept. 30 this year to register. —JEROME ANING
