10,000 QC men commit to eliminate violence against women

MANILA, Philippines — A mass pledge of commitment to break free from a culture of violence and discrimination was held at the grandstand of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) headquarters in Camp Karingal.
Mayor Joy Belmonte and Vice Mayor Gian Sotto graced the event with QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Roderico Maranan, MOVE (Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere) Vice Chairman for Luzon Donald Amado Caballero, and MOVE Secretary General Jonathan Pascual.

Men from different Quezon City barangays and Districts 1,2,3,4,6, together with Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel swore to abide by the principles of MOVE.

Belmonte challenged the men of Quezon City to be gentlemanlike, respectful, honorable, and fair to all women. She thanked them for joining MOVE to finally end violence and discrimination against women.

The mayor pushed for a five-point agenda; women’s education, rejection of views on women’s verbal or violent treatment, active response upon witnessing ongoing abuse of women, providing immediate help to women victims,and creation of policies to root out and solve these mistreatments.

In the celebration of the National Women’s Month this March, the Quezon City government launched month-long projects and services such as QC Kababaihan Festival; No Woman Left Behind Program, Quezon City Protection Center which is a one stop shop center for women, “Tindahan ni Ate Joy”, “Count Her In” photo-exhibit at Trinoma Mall, “Buntis Assemblies”, and POP QC Women’s Bazaars, among others.
