LTO won’t terminate contract with Dermalog, says Mendoza

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will not terminate its contract with Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) provider Dermalog Joint Venture, its chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said on Friday.

LTMS is an online portal that both local and overseas Filipino motorists can use to transact with the agency.

“Our hands are full in terms of further improving our services and in delivering what needs to be delivered to our kababayan. All of these are our priority right now,” Mendoza said as quoted in a statement released by the LTO.

He was referring to the full digitalization of all transactions in the agency, from applying for a driver’s license to motor vehicle registration.

Earlier, House Committee on Transportation chairman and Antipolo City 2nd District Rep. Romeo Acop urged the LTO to terminate its deal with Dermalog Joint Venture due to alleged contract breaches and violations.

Last February, an open letter signed by groups Federated Land Transport Organizations of the Philippines, Konsumo Pinas, Magtulungan Tayo, Philippine Transport Monitor, Samahan ng Kabataan para sa Kabuluhang Pagbabago, and Kamalaya Consumer Cooperative also accused Mendoza of failing to implement the LTMS.

The groups even urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to remove Mendoza from his post as the LTO chief.

However, Mendoza denied the allegation and said it was “false and are, plain and simple, desperate effort to mislead and misinform the public.”
