DepEd issues show cause order vs angry teacher in viral video

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday said a show cause order has already been issued against a teacher in a viral video  berating her students.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Bringas said the show cause order was issued on Monday morning.

“Within 72 hours magsu-submit ‘yung teacher ng kaniyang explanation (the teacher will submit her explanation), and that will be the basis of the creation of a committee that will ascertain whether they will proceed with the fact-finding investigation or not,” Bringas said,

It is the committee, he added, which will then determine if the case will have to proceed further into a preliminary investigation, or if the explanation is “satisfactory enough” for the appointed authority to settle with an appropriate action against the teacher.

Bringas said DepEd will not publicly identify the teacher, but said that she teaches in public high school.

“That is as far as the information that I could give you kasi kailangan din i-protect natin ‘yung teacher natin, lalong lalo na at na-viral ‘yan and she’s been receiving so many bashing and negative remarks,” Bringas explained.

(That is as far as the information I could provide because we also need to protect our teacher, especially since it has gone viral and she has been receiving numerous bashing and negative remarks.)

Citing initial reports, Bringas said the teacher’s anger was triggered by a certain group of learners who “made remarks that were truly hurtful to her.”

When asked about potential sanctions for the teacher, Bringas responded that depending on the severity, the teacher could face reprimand, suspension, or even dismissal.

“So we need to really ascertain the culpability kung meron man ‘yung ating teacher in violating certain provisions of our existing issuances,” said Bringas.

A spliced version of the teacher’s live video on TikTok went viral online, angering netizens in various social media platforms.

“Hindi ako nag-board exam para lang hindi i-respeto ng mga katulad niyong wala pa namang nararating sa buhay. Ang kakapal ng mga mukha niyo, hindi niyo nga kaya buhayin mga sarili niyo,” the teacher said in the viral video.

(I didn’t take the board exam just to be disrespected by people like you who haven’t achieved anything in life. You are shameless, you can’t even support yourselves.)

“Magboard-exam din kayo para malaman niyo kung hanggang saan lang kayo … hindi na nga kayo matalino eh, sama pa ng ugali ninyo,” she continued.

(Take the board exam yourselves so you’ll know your limitations… you’re not even smart, and your attitude is even worse.)
