Village, condo residents urged to conserve water amid El Niño

MANILA, Philippines — The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) advised residents of villages and condominiums in Metro Manila on Friday to conserve water to prepare for the effects of El Niño.

According to NWRB OIC-Executive Director Ricky Arzadon, doing so would help them avoid any supply disruptions and have ample supply until the rainy season.

“In case of rain, set up drums to capture rainwater,” Arzadon said in a press release.

The official also advised residents and occupants to check their water meters for leaks.

“As we enjoin residents and occupants to conserve water to tide us over the El Niño season, the NWRB likewise encourages them to regularly check their water meters to detect leaks,” he continued.

The NWRB also told property managers to use water responsibly in pool maintenance works and to use pails and dippers for other chores that use water.

“The NWRB advised property managers to postpone any swimming pool maintenance work that requires replacing of water in the pool. The NWRB also said they are promoting the use of pail and dippers in washing cars, cleaning driveways, watering lawns, and for similar activities,” he added.
