DSWD: Typhoon Egay victims in Ilocos Sur given livelihood grants

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Tuesday that it gave livelihood assistance settlement grants to around 3,000 families in Ilocos Sur who were affected by super typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri).

According to DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, 484 families were given P4.8 million in livelihood grants on March 22.

“Part of our disaster response is to ensure that the needs of the affected population, whose economic activities were disrupted, are addressed. These livelihood grants will aid the affected families in their long-term recovery and rehabilitation,” Dumlao said.

The official said that the payout last Friday was the first part, and other segments of the grant will be given in April to complete the 3,000 target families.

“This is just the first leg of the distribution of the livelihood grants. Other payout activities will be conducted by the DSWD in April to complete the target of 3,000 families belonging to the poor, vulnerable, and informal sectors,” she added.
