Olongapo suspends in-person classes anew due to intense heat

OLONGAPO CITY — The local government suspended in-person classes in this city on Thursday and Friday due to the expected intense heat.

Acting Mayor Aquilino “Jong” Cortez Jr. announced this after a forecast by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) that the heat index in the city would reach 44°C (degrees Celsius) on those days.

The state weather bureau considers a heat index between 42°C and 51°C “dangerous.”

Cortez said the suspension covered all levels in public and private schools.

He said students would have to undergo distance learning and other alternative modes while on-site classes are canceled based on the guidelines of the Department of Education.
