MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday wanted a stronger Philippine Air Force (PAF) following a command conference at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.

The Palace has remained mum on the exact details of the orders but said that Marcos was told of certain “activities.”

“The President was briefed on the recent activities, plans and proposed projects of the Philippine Air Force,” said Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil in a message to reporters.

“The President gave his guidance and instructions on some of the proposed programs to further strengthen the PAF as it defends the country’s sovereignty,  territory and development,” she added.

The command conference came amid both internal and external security concerns.

Rumors of an internal destabilization plot against Marcos’ administration have surfaced, with former military and police officials suspected of being the agents behind it.

Meanwhile, tensions in the West Philippine Sea have rapidly increased since Marcos sat as President. China has intensified its maritime expansion and increased its presence in Philippine waters. China is also reportedly behind the series of harassment of Philippine vessels and the construction of artificial islands.
