Visayas grid on 'yellow alert' on Tuesday — NGCP

MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon and Visayas grids are set to be placed on yellow alert on Tuesday afternoon and evening, said the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

According to the NGCP in advisory, the Luzon grid is scheduled to be placed on yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,” the NGCP said.

Current available capacity in Luzon is at 14,687 megawatts, with peak demand already at 13,507 megawatts.

Eighteen power plants are currently on forced outage, three of which since 2023; four between January and March 2024; and 11 between April and May 2024.

Six power plants are also running in derated capacities, totaling 2,075.8 megawatts unavailable to the grid.

Meanwhile, the Visayas grid will be under yellow alert from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The current available capacity in the area is 2,933 megawatts, with peak demand at 2,614 megawatts.

A total of 16 power plants are on forced outage – one from 2022, two from 2023, two between January and March 2024, and 11 between April and May 2024.
