MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reappointed Hans Leo Cacdac as ad interim chief of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a statement Saturday that Cacdac’s reappointment was indicated in a list of presidential appointees released by Malacañang on Friday, March 24.

According to the PCO, Cacdac’s reappointment showed Marcos’ “continued trust and confidence in the official.”

The Commission on Appointments has bypassed the confirmation of Cacdac as migrant workers’ secretary following SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta’s objection to his presidential appointment.

Marcos designated Cacdac as ad interim chief of the DMW in April, or seven months after he was named officer-in-charge (OIC) of the department in September 2023.

His appointment as DMW OIC happened after former secretary Susan Ople died in August last year.

Before Marcos picked him as DMW ad interim chief, Cacdac was undersecretary of the department; executive director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA); undersecretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE);

Deputy executive director of POEA; executive director the National Conciliation Mediation Board-DOLE; director of the Bureau of Labor Relations-DOLE; and associate lawyer and Urban Poor Unit coordinator of the Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal.
