QCPD to form team to look into killing of LTO employee

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will create a team of investigators to look into the killing of an employee of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), its chief, Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, says on Saturday, May 25, 2024. MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will create a team of investigators to look into the killing of an employee of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

QCPD Director Brigadier General Redrico Maranan said Saturday that Acting Deputy District Director for Operations Colonel Amante Daro will lead the team tasked to determine the motive behind the fatal shooting of Mercedita Gutierrez in Brgy. Pinyahan, Quezon City, on Friday evening.

The group’s work should also be able to result in the arrest of the motorcycle-riding gunman, Maranan also said.

Initial investigation showed that the incident happened at 6:20 p.m. on Friday near K-H Street and Kamias Road and that Gutierrez sustained wounds. The victim was immediately brought to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment but was declared dead by the attending physician, it added.

“Our prayers and sympathy to the bereaved family of the victim. The QCPD will not stop pursuing the suspect and we will make sure that justice will be served,” Maranan said in a statement.

In a separate statement, LTO head Vigor Mendoza II condemned the killing, and called for justice for Gutierrez.

“This is a cowardly act and we assure her family and the public of our untiring efforts to coordinate with the Philippine National Police and closely monitor the investigation of this incident to bring all the perpetrators of this crime behind bars,” Mendoza said.
