DFA passport appointment system back online

MANILA, Philippines — After being down for more than a day, the online passport appointment system of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) was back to normal on Wednesday.

The DFA announced on Tuesday that the system would undergo “maintenance from 28 May 2024 onwards” after “experiencing technical glitches.”

“The DFA is working closely and continuously with APO Production Unit, its service provider, to resolve the issues as soon as possible,” it said, referring to the state-owned corporation that provides printing services to the government.

On Wednesday, Foreign Assistant Secretary Adelio Cruz of the Office of Consular Affairs said that “the passport online appointment system and online payment [were] back in operation.”

“We needed to address and resolve some operational maintenance concerns,” he replied when asked what caused the shutdown. The DFA issued over 3.1 million passports last year.
