Makati gives P1 million cash aid to Davao de Oro

MANILA, Philippines — Makati gave Davao de Oro P1 million in cash assistance after a weather disturbance brought by a shear line affected the province early this year.
The city government said Mayor Abby Binay led the turnover of the financial assistance to Davao de Oro Treasurer Grace Quintana.
“We know they need all the help they can get to recover from the damage caused by severe weather events. Through financial support, we hope to alleviate some of the burdens of fellow local government units in recovery and rehabilitation,” Binay said in a statement Monday.

Aside from Davao de Oro, Makati will also extend financial aid to Kapalong Municipality in Davao del Norte, and Lupon Municipality and Caraga Municipality in Davao Oriental as the shear line and Tropical Cyclone Kabayan affected these areas last year.

Binay, meanwhile, said Makati plans to likewise share its best practices in disaster response and preparedness to help other local government units nationwide.
“We are ready to share our sound practices in various aspects of governance, including disaster risk reduction and management, to help other localities bounce back better and become more climate-resilient,” she said.
