MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water continues to strengthen its efforts to improve sanitation and enhance wastewater management in its service area through ramping up the implementation of its sewer network projects.

One of these projects, the P119-M Taguig North Package 4A, part of the Taguig Sewer Network, is currently undergoing project upgrades with channel interceptors and pipelaying activities being laid out.

The pipelaying works include installing wider 600-millimeter (mm) Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) pipes with 4-5 meters depth used for lightweight construction; and 500-mm smaller Ductile Iron Pipes (DIPs) that are for shallower depths of 2.5 meter and for long-term iron pipe sewers.

To ensure the long-term performance of the DIPs, Manila Water installed these pipes using the NPD 600 Slurry Pipe Jacking Machine, an innovative trenchless method that involves creating a special mixture to stabilize the soil, allowing the pipes to be guided through the ground with minimal disruption.

The upgrades being made with the Taguig North Package 4A are designed to capture the unsewered areas in Taguig North Catchment area that covers Amorsolo Street, Don Bosco Street and Barangay San Lorenzo in Makati City.

This ongoing installation of channel interceptor and pipelaying works play a vital role in safeguarding public health of its customers in Makati City and Taguig City. With the construction of the lift station by 2025, this project will deliver an additional 24 million liter per day (MLD) sewage flow by 2037.
