PNP cracks down on illegal protection activities

MANILA, Philippines — Local authorities have filed criminal charges before the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office against individuals allegedly providing protection services to a businessman at Bonifacio Global City.
The complaint was filed on June 11 against the licensee of the protective and detective agency and two unnamed protection agents, said the Philippine National Police (PNP) Civil Security Group on Tuesday.

“The filing of criminal complaint is a result of police operation led by the SOSIA [Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies] and joint with the Taguig City Police Station on June 3, 2024, which resulted in the inspection and apprehension of protection agents operating unlawfully in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City,” the police said.

They added that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal protection activities, which violate Republic Act No. 11917, also known as the Private Security Services Industry Act.
Article continues after this advertisementAccording to the PNP, the respondents were caught providing unauthorized protection services to a Filipino-Chinese businessman at a restaurant in BGC.
Among the items confiscated during the operation were two firearms, five magazines, and thirty-five rounds of ammunition, which were seized for verification and documentation, it added.
“Further, Violation Ticket Reports (VTRs) were issued against those found to have illegally deployed protection agents, servicing both foreign and Filipino clients with common violations ranging from non-possession of License to Exercise Security Profession (LESP), and working without Authority to Deploy Protection Agent (ADPA) and Special Duty Detail Order (SDDO), issued by SOSIA and the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG), respectively,” it further said.
