Sara Duterte resigns as DepEd Secretary

Vice President Sara Duterte has resigned as the Department of Education (DepEd) secretary, said the Palace on Wednesday.

In a statement to reporters, the Palace said Duterte did not disclose the reason for her resignation.

Senate President Francis 鈥淐hiz鈥 Escudero on Wednesday said Vice President Sara Duterte鈥檚 resignation as Education chief was 鈥渋nevitable,鈥 given her family鈥檚 feud with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and her silence on several issues.

鈥淚 believe her resignation was inevitable from the time her father, [Former President Rodrigo Duterte], and her siblings and allies started attacking [President Marcos] and members of the First family,鈥 Escudero said in a statement.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday denounced the recent 鈥渋llegal鈥 and 鈥渁ggressive鈥 actions of Chinese coast guards in Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal聽 in the West Philippine Sea which resulted in injuries among Filipino naval personnel.

The DFA was referring to a ramming incident on Monday, June 17, between China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels and Filipino boats during a resupply mission to BRP Sierra Madre.
