The jeepney came from Uma village and ferried 17 passengers to Tabuk City when it lost its brakes. It was overloaded which caused the driver to have difficulty negotiating the road.

Manganip said this was the first reported crash, a non-accident-prone area in recent years.

The jeepney driver, whose name was withheld, has been under police custody. A case for multiple serious physical injuries and less serious physical injuries is being readied against the driver, Manganip said.
