Dengue cases up in Calabarzon dengue cases drop

CEBU CITY, Philippines — At least six student-athletes participating in the Palarong Pambansa 2024 were taken to a local hospital after they got dengue before the sporting event’s official opening ceremonies on Tuesday.

Dr. Peter Mancao, acting chief medical director of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), said the students were already in stable condition.

Two of them are from the Zamboanga Peninsula, two from the Cordillera, and two others from Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon).

Mancao said some of the students were already “sick and feverish” when they arrived in Cebu City last week, indicating that they might have contracted the mosquito-borne disease from their places of origin.
