Fire ravages parts of oldest shopping mall in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY — A fire struck portions of the Maharlika Livelihood Complex, the oldest shopping mall in the city, early Tuesday, July 16, authorities said.

The fire reportedly started in one of the stalls on the third floor of the building around 1 a.m.

Firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Baguio are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.

No casualties have been reported, and damage is still being assessed.

An initial report from the BFP said a security guard at Maharlika alerted them about the fire.

Firefighters quickly responded and managed to suppress the growing blaze.

The fire was declared under control at 4:09 a.m. and fully extinguished around 4:30 a.m.

Opened in 1982 under the Human Settlements Development Corporation, the Maharlika Livelihood Complex Center was inaugurated by First Lady Imelda Marcos, who served as the human settlements minister.
