Cocopea ‘ready’ to work together with new DepEd chief Angara

MANILA, Philippines — An association of private schools said it will be ready to assist the Department of Education (DepEd) as former Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara assumed the Education secretary post on Friday.

According to the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (Cocopea), various challenges in the country’s education need to be addressed.

“The Philippine education system faces complex challenges, including access to quality education, public-private complementarity, technological integration, and improving educational infrastructure. These issues require our immediate attention and collective response,” the Cocopea said in a letter released on its Facebook page on Friday.

It added that it will work with the DepEd on resolving those challenges.

“Under your leadership, we are excited to engage in constructive dialogue with the Department of Education. […] We are ready to share our collective expertise and resources as we work together in the spirit of an all-of-society approach,” Cocopea added.

Angara was one of the recommendations that the Cocopea made in a letter that they sent to the Office of the President on July 1.

He succeeded Vice President Sara Duterte, who tendered her resignation as Education secretary last June 19.
