Man dies after falling from New Senate Building in Taguig City

A man fell off the New Senate Building and died in Taguig City, the Southern Police District said Friday, July 26, 2024. INQUIRER FILES

MANILA, Philippines — A man fell off the New Senate Building and died in Taguig City, the police said Friday, July 26.

In a report, the Philippine National Police-Southern Police District (PNP-SPD) said the 23-year-old man was a Philippine Navy applicant.

Citing witnesses, the SPD said the man was first seen entering the premises of the New Senate Building, which is still under construction, around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The man ran towards the third floor.

A witness immediately alerted security guards about it but they failed to locate the man.

Around 9 p.m., the witness and other security guards heard a loud thud, according to police. Eventually, they found the man’s body on the ground.

Information reaching the Senate, however, indicated that the man was being chased by an unidentified companion after he slipped into the construction site around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.

“The security team searched the area and reviewed the CCTV but were not able to locate the person,” the Senate said in a statement.

The Senate also said the man fell off the north tower of the New Senate Building around 10:00 p.m. on July 25.

The SPD said it is still assessing the “technical aspects” of its investigation of the incident.
