Batangas on yellow rainfall alert; rain to pour in mainly in Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Batangas has been placed under yellow rainfall warning while Metro Manila and other areas will continue to experience downpours on Wednesday afternoon.

These conditions are due to the southwest monsoon, locally termed habagat, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In an 11 a.m. rainfall advisory by the state weather bureau, it said that flooding in flood-prone areas is possible in Batangas.

On the other hand, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are expected to persist in Metro Manila, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Bataan within the next three hours.

Furthermore, light to moderate rains with occasional heavy downpours will prevail in Cavite and parts of Quezon (San Francisco, Mulanay, San Andres, San Narciso) within the next three hours and affect nearby areas.

In an early morning advisory, Pagasa said that the occasional rains in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan and Antique are brought by habagat.

Meanwhile, the monsoon-induced rains caused La Mesa Dam to reach its spilling level and this situation is expected to affect nearby low-lying areas.
