Passenger ship catches fire after being hit by a cargo vessel in Navotas

MANILA, Philippines — A passenger ship caught fire off Navotas City on Monday after it was bumped by a cargo vessel amid rains brought by Tropical Storm Enteng, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

PCG said stationary passenger ship MV Kamilla was hit by cargo vessel LCT GT Express. The incident was described by the agency as an allision at Navotas Anchorage Area located at A. Santiago St., Barangay Sipac-Almacen.

A fire shortly ensued after the allision, according to the PCG.

In another report, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said it raised the incident to a first alarm at 9:28 a.m.

As of posting, the BFP said they are still on standby since “firefighting and rescue [is] not possible due to strong winds and high waves.”

However, the PCG said it deployed BRP Suluan to conduct firefighting.

All 18 crew of MV Kamilla were rescued by authorities.

Enteng brought strong winds and rains in most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila. The tropical storm also struck Central Visayas, killing two people there.
