Over 400 residents still in evacuation centers in Occidental Mindoro

The municipal social welfare and development office of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro reported Sunday, September 15, that 118 families or 426 individuals are still in 12 evacuation centers in their town due to the bad weather.

CITY OF CALAPAN – The municipal social welfare and development office of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro reported Sunday, September 15, that 118 families or 426 individuals are still in 12 evacuation centers in their town due to the bad weather.

As of 3 p.m., the municipal information office said none from the evacuees that went to the evacuation centers on Saturday, September 14, have returned home as rains brought by the southwest monsoon continues to pour.

On Sunday morning, in a livestream on the Facebook pafe of the municipal information office, San Jose town disaster risk reduction and management officer Gil Gendrano said there is no typhoon in the area but they are still monitoring a low pressure area inside and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility that were reported by the state weather bureau.

Gendrano said they hope that rains would soon stop so the floods in villages would recede.

Relief goods were extended and the “kusina ng lalawigan” (provincial mobile kitchen) from Mamburao town was announced to serve the evacuees in Barangays (village) Mabini, Mangarin, Labangan, Bagong Sikat and Mapaya.

Occidental Mindoro Governor Eduardo Gadiano also gave 20 cavans of rice for the evacuees.

Meanwhile, classes in all levels, in public and private schools, were also ordered suspended on Monday, September 16.
