Manila Water is carrying out a maintenance project at its Marikina North Sewage Plant (STP) and Terminal Pumping Station (TPS) to ensure service reliability and strict compliance with the environmental standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Part of the project involves the installation of additional sewage submersible pumps, nominal diameter (DN) 400 and 500 pipes, and a full-bore electro-magnetic flowmeter.
These enhancements will increase the plant鈥檚 capacity and redundancy, ensuring continuous wastewater treatment even during peak flow periods.
Electrical upgrades were also implemented, including the installation of an auxiliary supply and control transformer, a motor isolator and disconnect switch, and the integration of new soft starters with the existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
Expected to be completed by October 2024, these improvements will help ensure the facility鈥檚 adaptability to current operations.
By upgrading the SCADA system and enhancing the power supply infrastructure of the Marikina North STP and TPS, Manila Water is investing in the future resilience of its wastewater management services while maintaining its 100 percent score in its wastewater effluent quality.

For the month of June, Manila Water鈥檚 26 wastewater facilities all achieved a 100 percent score in wastewater effluent quality compliance to MWSS Regulatory Office鈥檚 scorecard relative to the applicable General Effluent Standards set in the issued Wastewater Discharge Permits to the treatment facilities by either Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR) or the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA). This exceeds the 95 percent target for this indicator.
The company鈥檚 wastewater treatment plants produce 鈥淐lass C鈥 effluent with eliminated bio-nutrients. This is deemed safe for water recycling for non-contact purposes such as toilet flushing, cleaning, and irrigation, as well as safe for discharge to water bodies and聽marine聽life.
