Brown moth catches Leni Robredo’s attention, reminds her of Jesse

MANILA, Philippines — A brown moth was like a “soldier” guarding former vice president Leni Robredo for the days, reminding her of her late husband Jesse.

Robredo on Wednesday posted on Facebook the picture of the creature, which Filipinos believe to be the manifestation of a deceased loved one.

Jesse was killed in a plane crash in 2012.

“Since Jesse left us, a brown moth appears every time we celebrate milestones or are going through tough times,” Robredo said.

“This brown moth has been right outside my bedroom door for three days now, like a soldier keeping guard,” she added.

In an interview with Toni Gonzaga in 2021, Robredo said the presence of a brown moth is a “source of comfort” to her family.

“[It’s] like an assurance that ‘I am here,’” she added.

After losing the 2022 presidential elections, Robredo is now running for Naga City mayor, according to Liberal Party (LP) executive vice president Erin Tañada
