MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has welcomed the appointment of Jonvic Remulla as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Remulla was Cavite governor from 2010 to 2016 and from 2019 to 2024.

“We’re pretty sure that whatever his experience was as local chief executive of the province of Cavite, he will use it and bring it with him in serving as [secretary of the DILG],” PNP spokesperson BGen. Jean Fajardo said in Filipino on Tuesday.

“The PNP would like to commit our full support to him just like we did in the previous [DILG secretaries] who have served,” Fajardo added.

Remulla on Tuesday succeeded former Interior Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., who resigned from his post on Monday to vie for a Senate seat in the 2025 elections.
