MANILA, Philippines — As part of its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 2030, the Quezon City government has procured eight electric buses to complement its fleet of QCity Buses.

The modern electric buses have a 41-seating capacity with ample space to accommodate standing passengers. These are also equipped with wheelchair ramps to support the mobility of persons with disability.

The project is being implemented in compliance with Republic Act No. 11697 otherwise known as the “Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act or EVIDA Law.” The law states that at least 5 percent of government fleets, whether owned or leased, shall comprise electric vehicles.

The electrification of the city’s service vehicles is meant to reduce dependence on the conventional Internal Combustion Engine, which contributes up to 25 percent of black carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
