SANTA MAGDALENA, Sorsogon — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) suspended all passenger trips on Monday, Oct. 21, as tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 was hoisted over Sorsogon province due to Tropical Depression Kristine.

Captain Julian Bayawa Jr., acting commander of Sorsogon Coast Guard Station (CGS) said in an advisory that Ro-ro (roll-on, roll-off) vessels are prohibited from carrying passengers and “dangerous cargoes” until the tropical cyclone wind signal is lifted.

Ro-ro vessels plying in main supply routes like the Matnog and Sorsogon-Northern Samar routes may be allowed to sail, but with the condition that they will strictly comply with the requirements set by the Coast Guard.

They are allowed to carry up to only 300 gross tons, with a 75-percent maximum limit of their authorized capacity.

Bayawa said they would be allowed to sail “due to the significance of the unhampered flow of rolling cargoes and to minimize congestion in ports.”
