DILG鈥檚 Remulla suggests trimming down number of PNP generals

MANILA, Philippines 鈥 聽Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has recommended trimming down the number of generals in the Philippine National Police due to the redundancy of certain positions.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Remulla said he aims to cut the number of generals from 138 to 25.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 my plan, yes. We鈥檙e gonna let them retire. That鈥檚 one of my recommendations to flatten the organization,鈥 he said.

Remulla said that this is one of his priority recommendations as the new chief of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

鈥淭here are a lot of generals now without commands. If you look at it, mayroon tayong APC, area police command, wala namang tao sa ilalim nila, 鈥榙i ba? So marami tayong mga redundancies na kailangan i trim down,鈥 he explained.

鈥淎gain, nothing鈥檚 final; it鈥檚 recommendatory,鈥 Remulla said.

Remulla replaced Benhur Abalos Jr. as DILG chief after the latter resigned to run as a senator in the 2025 elections.

The new DILG chief took oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the Malaca帽an Palace last October 8.
