MANILA, Philippines — The country’s crime rate decreased by 8.43 percent from January to October this year compared to the same period in 2023, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Wednesday.

PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said the cases of focus crime declined from 166,013 to 152,024.

Focus crimes include murder, robbery, theft, rape, physical injury, homicide and vehicle theft.

“From January 1 to October 18, we recorded an 8.43 percent decrease in crime statistics, from 166,013 during the same period last year to 152,024 that would translate to an 8.43 percent reduction,” Fajardo said in a press briefing.

Aside from focus crimes, Fajardo said that the PNP also conducted 39,153 police operations, which resulted in over 47,000 arrests and confiscation of some P18.9 billion worth of illegal drugs.
