MANILA, Philippines — A total of 8,786 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded at 126 ports nationwide as of Thursday morning due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the count was a result of their monitoring from midnight to 4 a.m. on Thursday.

The PCG reported that inclement weather due to Kristine stranded 2,725 rolling cargoes, 142 vessels, and 65 motorbancas and forced 351 vessels and 327 motorbancas to take shelter.

Of the 8,786 individuals, 650 were stranded at Southern Tagalog ports; 3,750 in Bicol; 1,127 in Eastern Visayas; 1,553 in Northeastern Mindanao; 617 in Central Visayas; 265 in Western Visayas; and 674 in Southern Visayas.

Cyclone bulletins issued earlier Thursday stated that Kristine was last spotted near Aguinaldo, Ifugao, churning maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center and gusts of up to 160 kph.

Kristine is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday (October 25) afternoon.
