LEGAZPI CITY — A massive landslide triggered by days of relentless rain from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) buried 20 houses in Burabod village in Libon town, Albay, displacing around 70 residents and leaving one person missing.
Ian Sario Secillano, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer, confirmed in a phone interview on Thursday that the continuous downpour had weakened the mountainside, leading to its collapse.
The displaced residents have been evacuated to nearby centers for their safety as the area remains hazardous. Local authorities assured that clearing and retrieval operations will commence once weather conditions improve.
“Most of the villagers were transferred to evacuation centers and will temporarily remain there for their safety,” Secillano said.
