MANILA, Philippines —Ìý Marikina River was placed under second alarm on Thursday night due to the heavy rains triggered by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).
The Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) said the second alarm was raised around 9:34 p.m. after the river’s water level reached 16 meters.Ìý
Marikina River’s water level reached 15 meters, which prompted authorities to raise the first alarm at 6:50 p.m.
Metro Manila is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2.Ìý
The state weather bureau, in its 8:00 p.m. bulletin, reported that Kristine was over the coastal waters of Bacnotan, La Union.Ìý
It is moving west slowly, carrying maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) with gusts of up to 145 kph.Ìý
