Ex-village chair shot dead in Pangasinan

CALASIAO, Pangasinan — A former village chief in this town was shot dead while his wife was injured in a shooting on Sunday morning, November 3, the police said.

The police reported that former Barangay Gabon chairman Dexter Doria Jimenez, 58, and his wife Maritess, 61, were fetching a friend in San Miguel village when the gunman aboard a car approached their vehicle and shot Jimenez around 9:30 a.m.

Jimenez died on the spot due to gunshot wounds on his head and other parts of his body, the police said.

Maritess sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital while their friend Marifel Esperito Hizon was not hurt, the police added.

The Calasiao police immediately established a dragnet checkpoint/chokepoint operation to apprehend the suspect, who immediately fled after the shooting.

The police are still determining the motive behind the killing.
