154 killed, over 8.8 million affected by Kristine and Leon – NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — The death toll due to the recent weather disturbances is now at 154, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The agency also noted only 20 of these reported deaths were confirmed, while 134 are still up for validation.

It added that 134 were injured, and 21 are still missing.

Based on its 8 a.m. situation report issued on Tuesday, the NDRRMC said the tally of individuals affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) and Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong-rey) has also increased to 8,871,190 people or 2,225,168 families.

This figure includes more than 711,000 displaced people — over 193,000 were inside evacuation centers, while over 517,000 took shelter elsewhere.

NDRRMC likewise reported monitoring 839 flood-hit areas in Region 1 (Ilocos), Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), Region 3 (Central Luzon), Region 4-B (Mimaropa), Region 5 (Bicol), Region 6 (Western Visayas), Region 8 (Eastern Visayas), Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), Region 12 (Soccsksargen), Caraga, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and the National Capital Region.

The council said the government distributed over P1.2 billion worth of assistance nationwide.
