Marcos puts all gov’t agencies on ‘high alert’ due to Marce

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has placed all government agencies on high alert in preparation for the anticipated effects of Typhoon Marce (international name: Yinxing).

In a statement on Wednesday, Marcos said agencies must face the typhoon with extra preparation in accordance with long-established guidelines.

“Sa mga ahensya ng pamahalaan (To all government agencies), you all know the drill. I am placing you all [on] high alert,” he said in a statement.

Setting up a proper communication system to quickly deliver notice and information to the citizens about Marce must be prioritized, he said.

“Tandaan na nakabatay ang kanilang pagkilos sa mga maagang warnings na inyong ipaaabot (Remember that their actions are based on the early warnings you provide).  Knowledge saves lives,” he added.

As of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration said Marce was last spotted 305 kilometers (km) east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, or 315 km east of Aparri, Cagayan.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.
