MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental should brace for possible ash fall from the Kanlaon Volcano on Friday.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) at 11:32 a.m., the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the ash fall is forecast to go northwest of the volcano.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Friday that Kanlaon spews 7,378 metric tons per day of sulfur dioxide flux.

It also said that plumes from the volcano reached 750 meters tall and that 24 volcanic earthquakes occurred during the last 24-hour monitoring period.

Phivolcs raised Alert Level 2 for Kanlaon as the volcano shows a moderate level of unrest.
