MANILA, Philippines — Two “ashing” events occurred at the Kanlaon Volcano summit crater on Friday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The events took place at 1:02 p.m. and 3:51 p.m., respectively, with “no detectable seismic or infrasound signals recorded,” according to Phivolcs.
The institute previously described the ashing event as “gray ash being entrained or brought out by continuous degassing from the Kanlaon Volcano.”

Phivolcs said these events resulted in grayish plumes that rose about 600 and 700 meters high above the crater and drifted northwest.
Due to this, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council also warned residents of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental of possible ash fall from the volcano on Friday.
Based on the 24-hour observation of the volcano, Phivolcs reported that it recorded 24 earthquakes and emitted 7,378 metric tons of sulfur dioxide.
