Flights in parts of N. Luzon suspended due to inclement weather

Airports that suffered the brunt of Tropical Depression Obet only sustained “minor” damage, a transportation official said Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — Several flights to and from airports in Northern Luzon remain suspended due to inclement weather, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) announced on Tuesday.

According to Caap, this is despite the restoration of normal operations in most regional airports.

“Vigan, Lingayen, and Baguio Airports are back to normal but commercial flights are suspended due to cloudy weather with light to moderate wind,” Caap said in a situational report.

Basco Airport in Batanes also reported four canceled flights due to the strong winds, affecting 234 passengers from Manila to Basco and Clark to Basco.

Meanwhile, the Tuguegarao and Cauayan airports are operational with no commercial suspended.

Non-scheduled flights to coastal areas, however, remain barred while general aviation is on standby.

Laoag International Airport, on the other hand, has resumed operations with no canceled flights reported.

Furthermore, Caap said none of the mentioned airports sustained damage due to the past typhoons.

After weeks of consecutive typhoons ramming Northern Luzon, another storm, Tropical Storm Ofel (international name: Usagi), entered the Philippine area of responsibility early Tuesday morning.

While it has no direct effects on the country yet, it is forecast to make landfall either over Northern Luzon or Central Luzon by Thursday afternoon or evening.
