MANILA, Philippines — Classes were suspended in some parts of Luzon on Wednesday, November 13, due to Typhoon Ofel (international name: Usagi).
Based on the state weather bureau’s 5 a.m. bulletin, six Luzon areas were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Ofel intensified Wednesday morning.
Ofel was last spotted some 476 kilometers (km) east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 595 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte.
It now packs maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center and a gustiness of up to 150 kph.
Given these developments, class suspensions were prompted in the following areas:
Cagayan Valley
- Alcala, Cagayan: All levels, public and private
- Camalanugan, Cagayan: All levels, public and private
- Enrile, Cagayan: All levels, public and private
- Cabagan, Isabela: All levels, public and private
- Cauayan City, Isabela: All levels, public and private
- Echague, Isabela: Preschool to senior high school, public and private
- Santiago City: All levels, public and private
- Tumauini, Isabela: All levels, public and private
- Quirino: All levels, public and private; until November 14
