LIST: Areas at high risk of storm surge due to Super Typhoon Pepito

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Saturday warned of a high risk of storm surge that may occur within the next 48 hours in some areas in Luzon and Visayas due to Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi).

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Saturday issued a list of areas at high risk of storm surge that may occur within the next 48 hours due to Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi).

In its 2 p.m. advisory, Pagasa said that the low-lying or exposed coastal communities of the following areas may experience “life-threatening inundation from rising sea water along with high waves.”

It added that the storm surge heights may bring “damage to communities, coastal/marine infrastructures and disruptions of marine-related activities.”

Pagasa said that Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) is approaching peak intensity and is possible to bring “catastrophic and life-threatening situation” over the northeastern Bicol region.

The weather agency also noted that the super typhoon further intensified, where it was last located 200 kilometers (km) east of Juban, Sorsogon or 180 km east-southeast of Virac, Catanduanes.

It was now packing a maximum wind speed of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 240 kph, and moving west-northwestward at 20 kph.
