MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island remains under Alert Level 2 as it continues to exhibit volcanic activity, including ash emissions recorded from November 16 to 17, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In a Sunday afternoon advisory, Phivolcs reported ash emission lasting from two minutes to one hour and five minutes, producing ash plumes that rose 150 to 500 meters above the summit crater and drifted north and south.

According to Phivolcs, the volcano emitted ash from 1:42 p.m. to 2:08 p.m. and again from 3:29 p.m. to 3:41 p.m. on Saturday. Another ash emission occurred from 11:01 a.m. to 12:06 p.m. on Sunday.

“In total, the Kanlaon Volcano Network has recorded 55 ash emission episodes since 19 October 2024,” the state seismologist reported.

Phivolcs also reiterated that flying any aircraft near the volcano’s crater is strictly prohibited.
