State of calamity declared in Isabela town

TUMAUINI, ISABELA — The town officials here declared a state of calamity on Tuesday due to massive flooding which caused damage to farms, submerged houses, killed livestock, and caused millions of agricultural and infrastructure losses.

Mayor Venus Bautista said in a public announcement via the local government’s social media site, said that the cumulative losses were due to floods triggered by typhoons (Trami), (Toraji), (Usagi), and (Man-yi).

The total losses due to typhoons Kristine, Nika, and Pepito in Tumauini have amounted to P299 million in agricultural crop damage and P31.5 million in infrastructure damage.

Due to the declaration, Tumauini would be able to use the quick response fund to aid typhoon-affected villagers, the mayor said.

Cabagan town was placed under a calamity state on Monday along with Santiago City and Ilagan City.

Quirino Province – which has the towns of Cabarroguis, Maddela, Nagtipunan, Diffun, Aglipay, and Saguday – was also placed under a state of calamity after the widespread devastation caused by the series of storms.
