2 arrested for stealing copper cables worth nearly P400,000 in Taguig

MANILA, Philippines — Two security guards on patrol arrested two individuals found stealing copper cable wire along Manuel L. Quezon Avenue in Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig City early Thursday morning.

The Southern Police District reported that at 2:50 a.m. on November 21, the guards caught the suspects in a manhole as they were pulling copper wire from an underground cable owned by a telecommunications company.

SPD identified the suspects as alias “Edwin,” 56, and alias “Emerson,” a 37-year-old e-bike driver.

The guards recovered a total of 67 meters of foam skin-filled underground copper cables of various sizes worth  P389,031.29.

Authorities also seized an improvised hacksaw, a pair of cutters, and an e-bike.

Complaints for theft and violation of the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act are being prepared against the suspects.
